The LA Diet

The LA Diet is a low calorie diet plan that features specially formulated, pre-packaged bars, shakes, and supplements.

The plan focuses on restricting calories through a three-step sequential diet process designed to help dieters lose weight and maintain the weight loss.

It also features counselling and weekly weigh-ins, therefore it is not available in all regions.

So how does it work?...

The diet plan is a three part program with different levels of calorie restriction based on each person’s individual lifestyle and activity levels, as well as your weight loss goals.

The LA Weight Loss Diet claims that by supplementing your diet with their special pre-packaged foods and supplements, you will be able to eat the foods you like while still losing weight.

An extensive survey and questionnaire, including specific medical questions and questions about personality and emotional attachment to food, guides the company's counselors in creating a personalized program that always contains three phases: a weight loss phase, a weight stabilization phase, and a weight-loss maintenance phase.

Special and exclusive supplement products are sold at the LA Diet centers where clients receive one-on-one counselling, group meetings, and weigh-ins.

The Diet Plan...

The program’s first phase (the weight loss phase) is calorie restrictive, but focuses on portion size rather than calorie counting.

The aim of this phase is to lose 1 ½ -2 pounds per week. The plan is at first high in protein to accelerate fat loss. Sweets and junk snacks are generally cut out during this phase and added back during the maintenance phase, but the diet plan in general emphasizes that any food can be eaten so long as portion size is carefully controlled.

The program offers meal plans, recipes, and of course its pre-packaged supplements.

The program comes in three levels of calorie restriction plans: red, gold, and yellow. The level assigned is based on your physical activity and starting weight. Though the LA Diet does not explicitly demand exercise in conjunction with the diet plan, it is addressed somewhat through this feature.

Is it good for you?...

Because the LA Diet plan forces you to cut calories and portion size, it is often successful in helping people to lose weight.

However, the focus is less on nutrition and more on pushing the sale of their supplement foods that are sold at the LA Diet centers by counselors who often have no medical or nutritional expertise.

The counselors receive commissions on the products they sell, resulting in some criticism from many who feel the counselling is only a front for pushing the pre-packaged foods.

Because of these products and the fees for using the LA Weight Loss Diet centers, the program can get very expensive very quickly.

The LA Diet plan is generally low carb, low fat and high protein. Because the focus is on portion control, it will be very easy for many people.

The low emphasis on a balanced diet including vegetables and fruits makes the diet plan less than ideal health-wise, however.

Weekly weigh-ins can create responsibility and accountability which can be very helpful for many people.
